‘Truth is within us; It takes no rise from outward things. There is an inmost center in us all where truth abides in fullness.’’ Browning Robert

Truth is absolute. It is independent of any arbitrary standards of measurement. It is not based on reason, evidence or experience. Truth is not an idea to be debated or a fact to be validated by experience. Truth validates experiences and gives credibility to ideas. Jesus said, ‘I am the truth…’’ His words weren’t ‘I am a truth’ but THE TRUTH! This means that, if we must know truth we must know it in the person of Jesus Christ, in his incarnation, death and resurrection. Therefore, being in Him means to dwell in the fullness of truth and walk in the light beyond the shadows of ideologies built on experiences.

In the last phase of His life on earth, He told His disciples He won’t live them comfortless, that He will send them the comforter which is the Spirit of truth who will guide them into all truth about Him. It was important for them to know the truth, so as to lead their lives from the truth. Times where about changing and only the truth could comfort their hearts and keep their eyes fixed on Him.

Looking back in time from history to date, there seems to be lots of ideologies that has overtime crept into the heart of humanity and has been accepted as truth. We’ve built our lives around these ideologies and use them to validate the truth. So you hear stuffs like, ‘if you really want to matter in life, you must first suffer.’’ ‘No pain, no gain.’’ ‘Heaven helps those who help themselves’’ and lots of others. As nice as these things may sound, they do not resound with truth. They only darken our perception of the truth. They are as a result of people’s experiences; people whose lives were not anchored in the knowledge of the truth and couldn’t see the light beyond the reality of their pain.

Like someone once said, ‘if we’re not well anchored in the love of God, we will reduce our theology to match our pain.’’ It is sad how our lives have been unconsciously scripted by these ideologies. We’ve become so well adjusted with such notions and they shape our self-image, affect the decisions we make, yet we seldom realize where they come from and assume they are truth.

So here’s what I want you to know: You mustn’t suffer for you to matter. Jesus suffered so you can reign in life. No pain, no gain: Wrong! He took the pain and you have the trophy, you’re more than a conqueror through Him. Heaven help those who themselves: Wrong! God didn’t look at how well we were helping ourselves when Christ the Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world: when he lavished His love on us and made us joint-heirs with Him. We need to start seeing life in light of what Jesus has done for us and not in the light of people’s ideology or our experiences. Our interpretation of life’s events should spring from the knowledge of Christ within not ideologies without.

Lastly, experience is not the best teacher the Holy Spirit is! He is not subject to your experience, your experience are subject to Him.

‘Don’t let others spoil your faith and joy with their philosophies, their wrong and shallow answers built on men’s thoughts and ideas, instead of on what Christ has said.’’ Colossians 2:8

Happy Holiday.
