‘‘Jesus did not die and rise from the dead to end one age and shadows and symbols only to begin another age of shadows and symbols’’ ANONYMOUS

Contrary to the popular notion, Christ did not come to teach us how to fulfill the law by grace or make it easier for us to keep; He came to 'full-fill' the law and put an end to it. We need to understand that the Law is not an end in itself but a means to an end which ends in Christ; for if it was an end in itself, there would have been no need for the incarnation of Christ.

The Old covenant and its system of operation: the law, the tabernacle, priesthood, sacrifice, offerings are all nothing but shadows pointing to the real image Christ, the true high priest and His eternally perfect sacrifice. What is a shadow? Shadow by definition means a shade cast by the interception of light or an image cast by an object which represents the form of that object, but not the very object itself. Therefore, when the real object, the very image is revealed, the shadow fades away and is no longer valid; it becomes obsolete!

When the Bible talks about the Law being a shadow, it defines it in the same light as ''a form of good things to come'' in that, under the law, sacrifice for sins was continually carried out by the high priest year in, year out. As a result those who were purged of their wrongs, still carried the consciousness of their sins and were never truly free.
‘‘The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.’’ Hebrews 10:1-2
The coming of Christ in the flesh was to put an end to the Old covenant system of operation; to free us from the yoke of bondage, having offered up Himself as a sacrifice for sin via His death on the cross, His resurrection which instituted the New covenant, and the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70AD which brought about the culmination of the Old Covenant.
It is however sad that many believers are still having a form of romance with the Old covenant after having being freed of it, in that, they are still caught up in confession of sins, keeping of holy-days and lots of other practices which are all but shadows, and have been done away with in Christ. It was in this light that Apostle Paul wrote his letter to the brethren in Colosse admonishing them to hold fast to the realities in Christ and no longer be subject to any form of ordinances(shadows).

‘‘Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of things that were to come; the REALITY, however, is found in CHRIST. Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grow as God causes it to grow. Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world (Old Covenant Age), why, as though you still belonged to the world (Old Covenant Age), do you submit to its rules: ‘‘Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!’’?  These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.’’ Colossians 2:16-22 NIV

Friend, New moon celebrations are shadows, Christ is the reality. The Ten Commandments are shadows, Christ is the reality. Sabbath is the shadow, Christ is the reality. Passover are shadows, Christ is the reality. Tithing are shadows, Christ is the reality. Sacrifices are shadows, Christ is the reality. Holy days are shadows, Christ is the reality. The Old covenant with its redemptive system; all its attendants sacrifice and rituals, has been made away in the same way our sins has been made away in Christ. We are no longer subject to those ordinances! We are no longer under the shadows, but in the reality which is in Christ. It is finished!

Grace to you!
